Warren Buffett is proud of this website, and he has earned the right to be. It loads instantly, it says exactly what it is, and it has outlived every redesign its competitors have paid for. Plain is a legitimate choice.

But plain and dated are not the same thing. The page is laid out with HTML tables, the way sites were built before CSS existed, and it carries no viewport tag at all. That means a phone does not get a smaller version of the page. It gets the desktop page shrunk to fit, and the reader pinches to zoom.

The analytics stopped working in July 2023, when Google switched Universal Analytics off. Whatever anyone there thinks is being measured, nothing is being collected.

None of this costs Berkshire Hathaway a single customer, which is exactly why it is worth showing. It is the clearest example we have of the difference between a site that is deliberately simple and a site that simply stopped. One is a decision. The other is a date.

What the scanner said

  • Universal Analytics no longer works
    Still set up as UA-136883390-1, which Google switched off in July 2023, so visits are no longer counted.
  • No viewport declaration, so phones get the desktop layout
    The page ships no viewport meta tag. A phone therefore renders it at desktop width and scales the whole thing down, which is why the text arrives too small to read and the buttons too small to hit accurately. Most of your visitors are on a phone. This is a build-level fault, not a setting.
  • Tables are being used for page layout
    Found 1 layout table. That technique was superseded around 2010. It does not reflow on a phone and screen readers announce the structure as data.
  • Your server turns AI crawlers away
    We asked for your homepage as ChatGPT and Claude and the server refused, although it answered us normally a second earlier. That is a bot-protection rule at the host or CDN, not a setting inside your site, and it overrides anything robots.txt says. Cloudflare has a one-click switch for exactly this, often left on by whoever set the site up.
  • No meta description
    Google has nothing to show under your title, which costs clicks. Add a 140-160 character description.
  • No main heading (H1)
    Search engines use the H1 to understand the page. Add exactly one.
  • No structured data (schema)
    Without schema markup you are not eligible for rich results, and Google understands your business less well. Add Organization and Service schema at minimum.
  • No social preview tags (Open Graph)
    When shared on WhatsApp, LinkedIn or Facebook, your links show no image or title. Add Open Graph tags.
